Reduction in the Number of Active Realtors and Union Initiatives

The number of active realtors has decreased to 50,000–60,000. The Union supports market-based determination of real estate service fees, opposing government restrictions.

The President of the Russian Union of Real Estate Market Participants, Alexander Popov, reported a significant reduction in the number of active realtors. According to the Union's estimates, currently only about 50,000–60,000 brokers are regularly conducting transactions. This makes the market more competitive for the remaining active participants.

The Union was established about 2.5 years ago with the aim of implementing professional qualifications for real estate agents and developing evaluation sheets in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Labor. At present, certification within the Union is voluntary.

The issue of the necessity of government tariffs on real estate services is also being discussed. In the Union's opinion, proposals such as capping commissions at 1-1.5% for new buildings do not find broad support. The Union advocates for market-based determination of fees rather than government regulation.
